"Artist's Loft" by Michael's Rebrand

These slidedecks represent my response to the "bid" for the Artist's Loft rebrand, along with my proposed concepts. Each concept communicates a different idea of how to advertise this rebrand. Instead of cheap art supplies focused towards hobbyists and children, each rebrand concept proposed the new audience of Gen Z social media artists and art students.

A better way of explaining these slidedecks would be that they're my RFPs. They lean more towards the functional side of design rather than creative, existing to get my ideas across in a simple, easily understandable way.

Ultimately the concept chosen was the "patterns" one. With this concept I got to play around with radial shapes in Illustrator, using bold and sharp lines to draw the consumer's attention to the product on the shelf rather than bright colors. Or, just every color under the sun. Not every art materials package design needs to show every color it could possibly make. Most packs include color swatches, as well as how the material they're buying works.

6 Mockups…Different Mediums

Some mockups for this concept were digital, while others were printed out, hand cut and folded by good ole me. To create the main image for the rebrand featured in the ads below these mockups had to be combined, proving a good exercise in resolution and knowing what I'm doing.

Print Ad

With this rebrand I didn't want to get rid of the blue that is Artist's Loft's main color. It contrasts nicely against Michael's red, while also invoking serene and calm feelings. The black and white patterns allow for certain color changes to the logo and parts of the design based off of pigment or material. Magazines are really cool mock ups, and this version of the print ad shows the contrast between the patterns and the blues.

Digital Ad

This is where that new demographic comes into play. TikTok is one of the leading social media platforms. Many artists post their art on here, and there has also been a rise in art brands gifting these artists their materials to review and use. To compete with national brands like Ohuhu, Prismacolor, Posca, etc., this new demographic needs to be reached. Instead of putting art made with that medium on every package, TikTok art creators can actively use and try them out in front of their audience. These artists themselves might buy more products themselves, and their fans will trust their integrity and real review over the packaging. The packaging calls out to the consumer from the shelf, the quality speaks for itself.
